Металлист, Cultural heritage cinema in Leninsky District, Novosibirsk, Russia.
Metallist is a cinema building in Novosibirsk designed following constructivist principles, combining cylindrical and rectangular volumes in its composition. The structure sits at the intersection of Rimsky-Korsakov Street and presents its geometric forms as a coherent architectural statement.
The cinema was built in 1932 by the Sibmetallstroy factory and was the first sound-equipped theater in Novosibirsk, debuting its first sound film in November of that year. During the 1950s, it underwent major reconstruction that increased its height and expanded seating capacity significantly.
The building functioned as a community hub beyond cinema, offering a library, shooting range, and photo laboratory under one roof. These spaces allowed people to gather and spend time in different ways beyond watching films.
The building is located at a major street intersection in Leninsky District, making it easily accessible from public transportation. Its position on Rimsky-Korsakov Street helps visitors find it without difficulty from different parts of the city.
In 2018, the building faced demolition until it suddenly received cultural heritage protection status. This decision halted the work and immediately triggered preservation efforts to save the structure.
