Church of Saint Nicholas, Orthodox church in Kochaki, Russia

The Saint Nicholas Church features stone construction with one central dome and three altars dedicated to different Orthodox saints.

Built between 1690 and 1710, the church replaced an earlier wooden structure that marked the location where a Saint Nicholas icon repeatedly appeared.

The baptism of writer Leo Tolstoy took place in this church on August 29, 1828, performed by priest Vasily Mozhaiskiy.

The church returned to religious service in 1946 after functioning as a wheel workshop during the Soviet period from 1935.

The church grounds contain the Tolstoy family vault where the parents of Leo Tolstoy, Maria Nikolaevna and Nikolai Ilyich, are buried.
