The monument was unveiled on December 11, 2016, marking the 125th anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev's birth, located opposite house number 6 where he spent his final years.
The monument represents Prokofiev, who composed 11 operas, 7 ballets, 7 symphonies, and 8 concertos, becoming one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.
The monument is accessible by foot from Kuznetsky Most, Okhotny Ryad, and Teatralnaya metro stations in central Moscow.
The sculptor Andrei Kovalchuk based the design on a photograph taken in Chicago, showing Prokofiev wearing an elegant coat and hat while holding musical sheets.
