Sukhanovo

Sukhanovo is a manor estate in Vidnoye featuring a two-story mansion built in classical style, situated among gardens and ponds along the Gvozdyanka River. The grounds contain multiple auxiliary buildings and structures that form a typical large-scale country property from the 1800s.

The property came under the ownership of the Volkonsky princes beginning in 1804, until the Russian Revolution in 1917 inflicted substantial damage to the estate. The mansion underwent various transformations and restoration efforts throughout the decades that followed.

The estate contains a mausoleum dedicated to the Volkonsky family, a Temple of Venus pavilion, and a Church of the Mother of God of Blachernae. These structures reflect the spiritual and artistic tastes of those who once lived here.

The estate is accessible by train from Paveletsky Station to Rastorguevo, followed by bus numbers 379 or 59. Visitors should check current conditions and access information before arrival, as the property may have specific visiting times and restrictions.

The mansion's interior combined unexpected design styles, including Egyptian and medieval knight themes mixed throughout the rooms. This blend of decorative elements makes the furnishings surprisingly unconventional for a Russian country estate.
