Vidnoye is an industrial town in Leninsky District of Moscow Oblast, located roughly halfway between the capital and its southern suburbs. The settlement covers around 10 square kilometers and sits on a gentle elevation of 160 meters above sea level.
The town was established in 1949 around the Moscow Coke and Gas Works, a factory whose construction started in 1937. World War II interrupted the project, but after the conflict ended the plant resumed operations and drew workers to the area.
