Бирюлёвский лесопарк, Forest park in southern Moscow, Russia
Biryulyovsky Forest Park spans approximately 165 hectares in southern Moscow, featuring diverse landscapes including birch groves, oak forests, coniferous sections, and the protected Yazvenka River that flows along its northeastern boundary.
The park's dendrarium was established in the late 1930s and has remained largely unchanged since then, originally designed as a recreational area during Soviet times to preserve natural ecosystems characteristic of the Moscow region.
The park serves as Moscow's second-largest dendrarium after the Botanical Garden, housing hundreds of tree and shrub species from around the world, including rare Siberian cedars, apricots, white acacias, and various decorative plants for ecological education.
Visitors can access the park via public transportation with nearby bus and electric bus stops, and the area offers walking trails, picnic zones, and parking facilities near the entrance, operating 24 hours daily.
The park maintains large fenced sections that are closed to public access to protect rare flora and fauna, creating a genuine wildlife sanctuary where owls, orioles, hedgehogs, and other native species can thrive undisturbed.
