CCCP-L5412, Technical monument near Vnukovo Airport, Moscow, Russia.
CCCP-L5412 is a Tupolev Tu-104 aircraft mounted on a tall pedestal at the Vnukovo Airport exit near the Kiev Highway intersection. The monument displays the characteristic shape of an early jet with two engines positioned along the fuselage.
The Tu-104 was the only operational passenger jet aircraft in the world from 1956 to 1958. The design was based on the Soviet bomber Tu-16 and marked the start of Soviet civilian aviation using modern jet propulsion.
The aircraft symbolizes a pivotal moment in Soviet aviation history and shows that the Soviet Union held a leading position in modern technology at that time. Visitors can see how this monument reflects national pride in technological achievement.
The monument is located at a road intersection and is accessible around the clock without any entrance fee. You can easily view and photograph it from the street, though be cautious of nearby traffic.
The aircraft fuselage visible today is not from the original monument but was installed as a replacement in 2006. The first one was dismantled and scrapped five years earlier during airport reconstruction.
