Museum of Calligraphy

The Museum of Calligraphy in Moscow displays over 4,000 handwritten works created by around 460 masters from 65 countries. The collection covers various writing techniques and styles spanning from European to Asian writing systems.

The museum opened on August 14, 2008, and became a member of the International Council of Museums and the American Association of Museums. Its founding marked an important step in promoting calligraphy as an art form in Russia.

The collection displays writing styles from many cultures including Europe, the Arab world, China, Japan, and Eastern Europe. Each tradition shows a distinct artistic approach that visitors can experience firsthand.

The museum offers regular workshops led by international calligraphy experts that actively engage visitors. Plan time to participate in one of these sessions or explore the rotating exhibitions on display.

The museum preserves the handwritten original of the Russian Constitution created by master calligrapher Petr Chobitko in 2008. This remarkable document shows how contemporary handcraft gives significance to important state documents.
