Built in 1956 as an outdoor skating rink, the venue underwent significant modifications in 1973 when it received a permanent roof for the Summer Universiade.
The arena became a central location for Moscow's ice hockey community, serving as the home ground for several professional teams throughout its existence.
The venue offers direct access through the Sokolniki metro station, with additional parking facilities and bus connections available for event attendees.
In March 1975, the arena experienced an unfortunate incident during a Soviet-Canadian youth hockey match when 20 people died in a crowd surge.
