Guild house in Vyborg

The Guild House in Vyborg is a Gothic building made from large unworked boulders with prominent granite walls, standing at the corner of Novaya Zastava and Vyborgskaya streets. The structure has two levels and displays the sturdy construction typical of medieval buildings from this era.

The building was erected in the fourteenth century as a merchant residence and later became connected to the local trade guild as commerce expanded in the region. This transition shows how the structure shifted from a private dwelling to an institutional space.

The building shows how merchants and traders organized their work, with separate spaces upstairs for conducting business and downstairs for storing goods. This layout reflects the practical needs of medieval commerce and remains visible in how the structure is divided today.

The building is located at Vyborgskaya Street 10 and now houses a souvenir shop with local and traditional products for visitors to browse and purchase. Since the structure has historic wooden stairs and uneven floors, it is best to wear comfortable shoes and move carefully when exploring inside.

The ground floor of the building now sits lower than when it was originally built due to gradual soil settling over centuries. This unintended shift has completely reshaped how the space functions and gives the visit an interesting architectural quirk to notice.
