Built in the 1100s, the church underwent reconstruction after a devastating fire in 1759, maintaining its original medieval foundations.
The church received its name from Saint Helena of Skövde, who became Sweden's first female patron saint through canonization in 1164.
The church building accommodates 375 people and remains open daily for visitors who want to light candles or attend religious services.
A statuette created by artist Astri Taube in the 1950s stands outside the church, commemorating Saint Helena of Skövde.
