Tycho Brahe-observatoriet, Astronomical observatory in Oxie district, Malmö, Sweden.
Tycho Brahe-observatoriet is an astronomical facility in Oxie district that features five separate buildings with retractable roofs rather than fixed domes. Inside, multiple telescopes of different sizes are set up to observe various types of celestial objects and phenomena.
The facility was established in 1973 through a partnership between Per-Åke Björklund, the Malmö Astronomy and Space Society, and Malmö Municipality with the goal of bringing astronomy to the general public. A radio telescope was added at a later stage to expand the range of observations.
The observatory maintains strong connections with educational institutions by offering programs and remote observation opportunities for high school students.
Visitors can attend public observation sessions offered regularly, with staff guidance and explanations that enhance the experience. It is advisable to plan your visit during clear weather and check in advance which telescopes are available for visitors to use.
The radio telescope here can receive hydrogen waves from space that originate from galaxies billions of light-years away. This type of data helps astronomers understand the structure and composition of the distant universe.
