Skabersjö Castle, Medieval castle in Svedala Municipality, Sweden.
Skabersjö Castle is a castle in Svedala Municipality with a two-story main building and two extending wings. The structure displays traditional Swedish architectural elements dating to the 18th century.
The castle was originally built in the 1510s but burned down in 1523 and was rebuilt under Holger Ulfstand's direction. In the late 18th century, Governor Tage Thott carried out extensive renovation work that gave the structure its current appearance.
The castle reflects the tastes of Swedish nobility and shows through its design the social rank of its residents. The rooms and their furnishings reveal how the noble families lived here and displayed their power.
The castle sits southeast of Malmö and can only be visited by prior arrangement with the Skabersjö gods AB foundation. Plan ahead to arrange a visit.
The renovations between 1775 and 1782 were so extensive that the castle completely changed its medieval appearance. This phase shaped the building more than its original construction over 200 years before.
