Stocksunds vattentorn, Water tower in Danderyd Municipality, Sweden.
Stocksunds vattentorn is a round structure with light yellow exterior walls located on a hillside between Bergstigen and Donnerstigen streets. The building contains residential spaces across multiple floors with the original water tank positioned at the top.
This structure was built in 1910 using reinforced concrete and supplied water to the area for more than 50 years. When the municipality switched to the Görvälns water system sourced from Lake Mälaren in 1960, it ceased serving this practical purpose.
The tower takes its name from the Stocksund area where it stands, and it remains a visible reference point in the neighborhood today. People living nearby have grown accustomed to seeing it as part of their everyday surroundings.
The tower is accessible from Bergstigen and Donnerstigen streets and sits in a hilly residential area. A daytime visit allows you to see the structure and its surroundings most clearly.
In its early years, visitors could climb to the copper-clad observation platform at the top for a modest fee. This paid access was a common way to maintain and fund the structure before it transitioned to residential use.
