Danderyd Municipality, municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden
Danderyd Municipality is an administrative area in Stockholm County, located just north of the Swedish capital. It is made up of several residential neighborhoods set among forests and waterways on the eastern side of Sweden.
Danderyd was recognized as an independent administrative unit in the early 20th century and grew steadily after the Second World War as families moved out of Stockholm to settle in the surrounding area. This shift turned it from a largely rural territory into a residential community.
The area is well connected to central Stockholm by the Roslagsbanan commuter rail line, making it straightforward to reach from the city. Walking or cycling is a practical way to move between neighborhoods, especially near the waterfront areas.
Danderyd has one of the highest concentrations of doctors and medical professionals in Sweden, largely because the Karolinska University Hospital sits just nearby. Many hospital staff have settled in the surrounding neighborhoods over the decades.
