Strawberry Arena, Multi-purpose stadium in Solna, Sweden
Strawberry Arena is a multi-purpose stadium in Solna, Sweden, located near central Stockholm. The roof consists of two large movable panels that fully open or close in roughly twenty minutes, allowing events to take place in any weather.
Construction started in December 2009 to replace the older Råsunda Stadium, which had previously served as the home ground. The opening took place in October 2012 with a ceremony attended by Crown Princess Victoria.
The name comes from the main sponsor, a Swedish insurance company whose brand has been linked to the building since it opened. On event days the surrounding walkways fill with visitors streaming from the nearby platforms, often spotting the changing light patterns on the facade from a distance.
The site offers space for roughly 4,000 cars and 300 coaches in separate parking areas surrounding the building. Arriving by public transport is done through Solna station, which connects directly to the stadium and offers regular links to Stockholm.
The outer facade is equipped with LED technology that can display up to 17 million different color combinations and is visible from far away after dark. This lighting changes depending on the event and allows the building to glow across the rooftops of Stockholm.
