Prostredný hrot, Mountain summit in Prešov Region, Slovakia
Prostredný hrot is a mountain summit in the High Tatras, Prešov Region, rising between the Malá Studená and Veľká Studená valleys on the Slovak side of the range. The peak is surrounded by steep granite walls and sits in a compact rocky massif shared with neighboring summits.
The first recorded ascent of the peak was made in 1876, at a time when mountaineers were systematically exploring the High Tatras for the first time. Those early climbs laid the groundwork for the routes that are known and used today.
The name "Prostredný hrot" means "middle peak" in Slovak, and it describes the position of the summit between its two neighbors. From the valleys below, anyone looking up can easily identify which peak this name refers to.
This summit is only for experienced climbers, as the routes involve technical rock sections that require both skill and physical preparation. Anyone planning a visit should go with a certified mountain guide and check the weather carefully before heading out.
Despite sitting between two well-traveled valleys, the peak has no trail leading directly to it, which makes it far less visited than neighboring summits of similar height. Experienced climbers often appreciate it for this reason, since it rarely feels crowded even on busy summer days.
