Wat Khao Takiap, Buddhist temple on Chopsticks Hill in Nong Kae, Thailand.
Wat Khao Takiap is a Buddhist temple complex situated on a steep rocky outcrop about 270 meters high, featuring a large standing Buddha statue that overlooks the sea below. The site comprises multiple levels with shrines and pavilions distributed across the cliff face.
The temple was constructed and expanded over several decades, maintaining traditional Thai architectural principles throughout its development. Successive renovations have updated the structures while preserving its primary religious purpose.
The temple serves as an active worship site where visitors leave incense, candles, and flowers as offerings while observing the daily routines and rituals that monks perform.
Access to the site is via a paved road that winds up the hillside or by songthaew shared taxis from central Hua Hin. The climb involves stairs and uneven paths at various points, so wear comfortable footwear and allow time for walking up and down.
Wild macaques inhabit the temple grounds and are frequently spotted near the shrines and observation platforms. These monkeys are accustomed to human visitors and provide many opportunities for observation and photography.
