Ulugöl Nature Park, Protected area near Gölköy, Turkey
Ulugöl Nature Park is a protected area centered around a lake surrounded by dense forests at an elevation of about 1250 meters in the Black Sea region. The site includes picnic areas, prayer spaces, camping grounds, a children's playground, and bungalow accommodations spread across the 26-hectare property.
The Turkish government designated this land as a Type-A recreational site in 2005, then officially established it as a nature park in 2009. This formal protection marked the beginning of managed conservation for the forest and lake landscape.
The tea gardens serve regional Black Sea dishes that reflect the eating habits of people who live nearby. Visitors notice how locals integrate their daily routines with the natural surroundings.
The park is best visited during warmer months when pathways around the lake are easy to walk. Wearing good shoes is helpful since trails can become muddy after rain.
The lake and surrounding forests change dramatically with each season, offering visitors a different landscape each time they return. These shifting conditions attract bird watchers who come to track migratory species passing through the region.
