Suzanne Parish, a former Women's Airforce Service Pilot, established the museum in 1977 with nine aircraft, naming it Air Zoo due to animal-themed aircraft names.
The museum highlights achievements of women and African Americans in aviation through exhibits like Women in Air & Space Timeline and Black Wings.
Located halfway between Detroit and Chicago near Interstate 94, the Air Zoo welcomes visitors Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sundays noon to 5 PM.
Visitors observe the restoration team working on historic aircraft, including projects such as the F-117 Nighthawk, in the Flight Discovery Center.
