Armour Square Park, Public park in Armour Square, Chicago, United States
Armour Square Park is a nearly 9-acre public space in Chicago featuring two gymnasiums, an auditorium, multiple tennis and sports courts. The grounds also include an outdoor swimming pool and offer diverse facilities for training and recreation.
The South Park Commissioners acquired this land in 1904 and completed the park in 1905. It emerged as part of Chicago's early municipal infrastructure development.
The park takes its name from Philip Danforth Armour, the meatpacking magnate whose family shaped this neighborhood. The name reflects the deep connection between the industrialist and the area's growth.
The facilities are open to the public year-round with sports programs and activities available throughout the seasons. Check ahead to learn which specific areas are in use and what programs are currently running.
President Theodore Roosevelt highlighted this park's significance as a major civic achievement when he acknowledged its establishment in 1906. This recognition underscores how important the facility was to the national perception of Chicago's progress.
