Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, Research library consortium in Denver, United States
The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries is a consortium of sixteen educational and research institutions in Colorado and Wyoming that share their collections and resources. The Prospector catalog system links these institutions and provides access to more than 30 million books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs.
The consortium was established in 1974 to improve library services and information access across the region. What started as a focus on shared purchasing power evolved into a comprehensive network for resource exchange.
The consortium brings together diverse institutions from universities to research centers, pooling their collections for shared access. When you visit a member library, you experience how different organizations work together to make knowledge and materials available to everyone.
Visitors can order materials from the network through any member library and pick them up at their preferred location. Ordering and access are free for users with an appropriate library card.
The network develops and maintains specialized software products while providing hosting for open-source applications on its own infrastructure. This technical side makes the consortium more than just a traditional resource-sharing organization.
