The Harpos Concert Theatre stands on Harper Avenue with an 80-foot vertical sign marking its presence in the entertainment district of Detroit.
Initially opening as Harper Theatre in 1939, architect Charles N. Agree designed this Art Moderne structure for approximately $290,000 with murals by Thomas di Lorenzo.
The venue transformed from a movie theater into a concert space in 1974, becoming a primary location for heavy metal and industrial rock performances in Detroit.
The building maintains a seating capacity of 1,975 people and hosts regular music events, with merchandise including t-shirts and canvas shoes available for purchase.
Iron Maiden, U2, Slayer, and Slipknot have performed at this location, while Gary Moore recorded his live album We Want Moore within these walls.
