Beverly Road Historic District
Beverly Road Historic District, Residential historic district in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Beverly Road Historic District is a residential neighborhood in Grosse Pointe Farms featuring approximately 15 substantial homes positioned on both sides of the street between Lakeshore Drive and Grosse Pointe Boulevard. These properties remain private residences, maintaining their original purpose as family dwellings.
The district was created in 1911 when Henry B. Joy laid out the Beverly Park Subdivision, beginning the transformation of Grosse Pointe from farmland into an upscale residential community. This development drew affluent business owners who built substantial homes in the area.
The buildings here were designed by well-known architects of the early 20th century, each bringing their own style to the residential street. Walking along Beverly Road, you can observe the different design approaches and the care taken in each home's appearance.
You can explore the street on foot at any time since this is an open residential area where you can walk freely. Keep in mind that all buildings are private homes and cannot be entered, so your exploration will be from the outside.
This neighborhood was home to several prominent Michigan business leaders, including William P. Hamilton and Edwin R. Stroh, whose success was reflected in their substantial residences. These wealthy residents left a lasting mark on the region's social and economic landscape.
