The residence hosted numerous meetings of the abolitionist movement during the 1800s, including visits from Sojourner Truth and other social reformers.
The property now functions as an office space for Western Michigan University's Association of American University Professors, maintaining its historical features.
The building combines Greek Revival and Italianate architectural elements, featuring classical columns alongside decorative eaves and a characteristic hip roof.
