Horlick Field, Sports stadium in Racine, Wisconsin, US
Horlick Field is a former sports stadium in Racine, Wisconsin, located at North Memorial Drive, featuring a 5000-seat football field and baseball park. The grounds were enclosed by stone walls and chain-link fencing with natural grass playing surfaces.
The facility officially opened as a sports venue in 1919 after William Horlick, inventor of malted milk, donated the land for its creation. This location later became significant in professional football history.
The field was home to the Racine Belles women's baseball team for many seasons and hosted performances by drum and bugle corps ensembles. These events made the venue a gathering place for local fans and music enthusiasts.
The site can be visited today though it is no longer actively used for sports, and you can see the historic structures from the exterior. It works best to visit during daylight hours when the grounds and fencing are most visible.
A defining moment occurred in 1920 when a newly renamed team played its inaugural game under that name at this location. This early chapter proved crucial to the development of what would become one of the nation's most successful franchises.
