Johannes Decker Farm

The Johannes Decker Farm is a historic stone complex with characteristic Dutch architectural features near Gardiner. The main house displays a flared gable design, while a barn and carriage house complete the working property spanning roughly 65 acres.

The main house was built in the 1720s and received three additional sections during the 18th century, reflecting different construction phases. These expansions show how the family gradually adapted the property to meet their growing needs.

The buildings display Dutch design elements that were common in this region and remain visible in their construction today. The sloped roofs and stone walls reflect the building traditions of early settlers who shaped rural architecture in the area.

The property sits southwest of Gardiner on Red Mill Road near Shawangunk Kill, where parking is available. Access is straightforward, and the location offers a good view of an intact early farm complex.

The stone house maintains its original rubble construction with distinctive flared gable ends that stand out from other colonial buildings in the area. This curved roofline was unusual for the region and makes the structure visually distinctive today.
