John and Rosetta Lee House
John and Rosetta Lee House, Gothic Revival house in Lapeer, United States
The John and Rosetta Lee House is a two-story residential structure with an L-shaped floor plan, featuring channeled columns and paired front doors framed with colored glass transom windows. Over time, the interior was converted into apartments while the exterior remained largely unchanged from its original design.
The house was built in 1872, reflecting the architectural tastes of the late 1800s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The residence shows how Gothic Revival style was applied to American homes, with its steep roof line and decorative trim visible from the street. Walking past, you notice how these details gave the house a distinctive appearance that set it apart from simpler neighborhood dwellings.
The building sits on Calhoun Street in downtown Lapeer where you can see it easily from the sidewalk and view its exterior details up close. Since it is privately owned, you can appreciate the structure from the street without needing special access.
The house catches your eye with its prominent bay windows crowned with decorative brackets that add extra depth to the front facade. It sits near the Samuel J. Tomlinson House as part of a well-kept row of historic homes.
