Lake Snowden

Lake Snowden is a protected area in southeastern Ohio with 675 acres of land and a 136-acre water surface for outdoor recreation. The site provides spaces for camping, fishing, and boating within a natural setting.

The dam project was completed in 1970 with federal support from the Farmer's Home Administration and the Soil Conservation Service. The site was created to control and manage flooding across the region.

The annual Ohio Pawpaw Festival in September celebrates a native North American fruit through competitions and food prepared by regional breweries. Visitors can see how the community honors this fruit, which is rarely cultivated elsewhere in the region.

The campground offers more than 100 sites, many with electrical hookups, while others provide basic camping. It is helpful to check conditions before visiting, as availability varies by season.

Hocking College operates a fish hatchery here that supports local fish populations and provides students with hands-on experience. This facility plays a quiet role in managing water resources and aquaculture education.
