Lamar Porter Athletic Field, Baseball field in Stifft Station, Little Rock, United States.
Lamar Porter Athletic Field is a ten-acre sports complex in Little Rock featuring a concrete grandstand that holds about 1500 spectators, alongside four tennis courts and diverse recreational spaces. Multiple different areas are arranged throughout the grounds to accommodate various athletic and leisure activities.
The facility was built between 1934 and 1936 by the Works Progress Administration, which employed about 400 workers on the project. This construction was part of the large-scale employment initiatives launched during the economic depression of that era.
The field holds significance as the training ground for Baseball Hall of Fame member Brooks Robinson, who started his career at this location.
Today the complex operates under the Billy Mitchell Boys and Girls Club, offering organized sports programs and recreational activities for visitors. The well-equipped grounds are easy to access and well-suited for various types of leisure pursuits.
The name comes from the Porter family, who donated the land in memory of their son Lamar, who died in a car accident at age 20 in 1934. This personal story of loss forms the origin behind this community gathering place.
