Thomas R. McGuire House, Colonial Revival house in Capitol View Historic District, Little Rock, United States.
The Thomas R. McGuire House is a residential building in Colonial Revival style located in the Capitol View Historic District of Little Rock. It features handcrafted metal columns, brass fixtures throughout, and interior woodwork of oak with pressed tin ceilings.
The master machinist Thomas McGuire, who worked for the Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad, constructed this house between 1904 and 1915 using his own architectural designs. The extended building period allowed him to experiment with construction techniques and develop innovative solutions.
The National Register of Historic Places added this property in 1991 for its architectural and engineering importance in Arkansas residential construction.
The house sits on Rice Street and is visible from the street, showcasing how a railroad craftsman applied industrial skills to residential building. Visitors can observe the handcrafted details of the exterior construction and the level of manual expertise involved.
McGuire manufactured concrete blocks in his front yard and designed clay molds for the decorative capitals on the porch. Before the city supplied water, he engineered a rainwater filtration system that demonstrates his resourcefulness and technical creativity.
