McAndrews Estate, Historical estate in Oscawana-on-Hudson, New York, US
McAndrews Estate is a historical property in Oscawana-on-Hudson, New York, spanning multiple acres with remains of colonial buildings, stables, and a horse racing track near the Jamawisis River. The structures now sit within parkland, with the original layout still visible across the grounds.
A Belgian businessman purchased the property in 1888 and established a horse breeding farm there, naming it Long View. Over the following decades, the estate changed hands and purposes until the county transformed it into public parkland.
The estate functioned as a meeting point for Belgian diplomats and business leaders during the early 1900s. Visitors can still sense this international heritage through the remaining structures and their careful placement across the grounds.
The grounds are now open as public parkland where visitors can walk among trees and explore historic foundations. Fair weather makes for easier exploration, as the remaining structures and paths are more visible and accessible throughout the site.
A resident named Frederic Cole filmed the estate's final days before its decline, creating a documentary record titled The End of Long View. This footage preserves one of the few detailed looks at what the structures once appeared like in their later years.
