Marine Air Terminal, Airport terminal from 1939 in Queens, United States
The Marine Air Terminal is an airport terminal built in 1939 at LaGuardia Airport in Queens with Art Deco architecture. The circular building features a central rotunda with limestone walls and polished stainless steel trim throughout its rounded form.
The terminal opened in 1939 as the departure point for Pan American Airways flying boats until 1947. The shift to land-based aircraft made seaplane operations at this location obsolete and ended that chapter of aviation.
The design recalls the era when flying boats were a symbol of modern travel and luxury. The large mural by James Brooks inside the building shows this history visually to everyone who passes through.
The terminal is located within LaGuardia Airport and can be explored by visitors. Access is straightforward since the building connects directly to the main airport facilities.
The building extends to a dock where seaplanes once moored after landing on the East River. This direct water access is an unusual feature rarely seen in airport design.
