Memorial Union, Student union building at University of Oklahoma, United States.
Memorial Union is a large building on the University of Oklahoma campus that spans multiple floors. It contains eight restaurants, meeting spaces, an auditorium, a ballroom, student service offices, and various administrative departments.
Construction began in 1929 and was funded through a fundraising campaign worth a million dollars, the first such initiative in the university's history. A prominent clock tower was completed in 1936 and later received carillon bells in 1955, giving it a musical dimension.
The building serves as a gathering place for students and contains two major event spaces: Meacham Auditorium and the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom. These venues regularly host concerts, celebrations, and academic ceremonies that shape campus life.
The building has multiple restaurants, making it easy to find a place to eat. The various departments are well organized, and it is simple to find your way to student services, financial aid offices, or other administrative departments.
The 99-foot (30-meter) clock tower was built during the Great Depression through the Works Progress Administration program, which employed workers during that difficult time. This history makes the tower a symbol of persistence and community support through hard times.
