Museum of Osteology, Natural history museum in Oklahoma City, United States
The Museum of Osteology displays more than 300 complete animal skeletons from around the world, featuring mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish arranged throughout its galleries. The exhibits allow visitors to examine bone structures of different species side by side and observe how anatomy varies across the animal kingdom.
The museum opened in 2010 after its founder spent more than 40 years collecting skeletons through his company Skulls Unlimited International. This extended collecting period resulted in one of North America's largest skeletal collections.
School groups and families visit to observe how different animals are structured from the inside, comparing skeletons across the animal kingdom. People move through the exhibits studying bone arrangements in familiar species and exotic ones alike, learning how anatomy shapes the way creatures live.
The museum welcomes visitors throughout the week with varying hours depending on the day, making it easy to plan a visit. Most exhibits are straightforward to explore and accessible for visitors of different ages and physical abilities.
The collection includes skeletons of rare species such as the Javan rhinoceros and one of the first Komodo dragons legally permitted to enter the United States. These special specimens showcase efforts to acquire and preserve international specimens through proper channels.
