Oklahoma Commons, Skyscraper in Oklahoma City, United States
Oklahoma Commons is a 30-story office tower made of glass and steel in downtown Oklahoma City. The building covers roughly 600,000 square feet and houses state government offices alongside private tenants.
The tower was built in 1971 as the headquarters for Kerr-McGee Corporation and later passed to several energy companies. A major renovation in 2010 brought the building up to modern standards.
The American Institute of Architects Oklahoma Chapter granted the 25-Year Award of Excellence to this structure in November 1999.
The building sits in the heart of Oklahoma City and is easily accessible by car and public transit. Keep in mind that much of it remains government office space with limited public entry to most floors.
The structure was designed by Pietro Belluschi and Frankfurt-Short-Bruza Architects, two key figures in modern office building design of that era. Its clean glass facade and geometric form reflect the minimalist principles that influenced commercial architecture in the 1970s.
