Galaxy, Steel sculpture at Leadership Square, Oklahoma City, United States
Galaxy is a steel sculpture standing at Leadership Square in downtown Oklahoma City, made from welded and painted steel in bright red. The work features multiple large geometric shapes arranged together to create an abstract composition that dominates its outdoor setting.
The sculpture was created in 1985 by a known artist in a Connecticut studio and later transported to Oklahoma City in three separate sections. This construction method allowed the large work to be moved and reassembled at its permanent location downtown.
The sculptor chose bright red to make the geometric forms stand out against Oklahoma City's urban landscape. The bold color and angular design create a striking presence that people notice immediately when walking through the downtown area.
The sculpture sits outdoors at Leadership Square where you can view it freely and from all sides along public walkways. The work stands in a downtown location that is easy to reach on foot and offers clear sightlines from multiple angles.
The Smithsonian Institution documented this steel work in 1994 as part of a national program that records outdoor sculptures at risk. This documentation placed it in a registry of artworks recognized for their cultural value across the United States.
