Old Stone House

The Old Stone House is a museum in Park Slope housed in a reconstructed Dutch farmhouse from the colonial period. The building spans multiple rooms with exhibits about life and events from that early era.

The house was built in 1699 and served as a crucial defensive position during the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776. After the war, it was reconstructed in 1934 with the goal of preserving its colonial history.

The house displays how people lived here long ago, with furniture and objects from everyday life in that era. You can see the tools and items residents used to manage their daily existence.

Access is available on weekends and select weekdays, though times vary depending on the day. It is best to check ahead if you plan to visit at a specific time, as group visits can be arranged by appointment.

The walls of the original house were recovered during reconstruction and integrated into the new structure, preserving authentic elements from the colonial period. These stones connect visitors directly to the actual history of the place.
