Reitz Home Museum, Victorian house museum in downtown Evansville, Indiana.

The double-story mansion displays French Second Empire architecture with silk damask walls, hand-painted ceilings, and intricate wood parquet floors throughout its rooms.

John Augustus Reitz constructed this residence in 1871 after establishing his fortune in the lumber industry, marking the economic growth of Evansville during industrialization.

The interior preserves authentic Victorian furniture, French gilt chandeliers, marble fireplaces, and stained glass windows that represent 19th-century upper-class American lifestyle.

The Reitz Home Museum opens Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with guided tours starting at the Carriage House on 112 Chestnut Street.

Each room contains period-specific decorative elements, including hand-laid wood floors featuring different geometric patterns and molded plaster friezes with distinct designs.
