Shelburne Museum Round Barn, Agricultural exhibition barn at Shelburne Museum, Vermont, US.
The Shelburne Museum Round Barn is a three-story agricultural structure measuring 80 feet (24 meters) across, with a central silo positioned in the middle. Its circular design allowed farmers to move easily between work areas without wasting steps.
Built in 1901 in East Passumpsic, this structure was relocated to the museum between 1985 and 1986 as part of preservation efforts. The move demonstrated innovative techniques for saving historical farm buildings.
The Round Barn displays a collection of horse-drawn carriages that represent transportation methods from different periods of American agricultural history.
The interior can seat about 200 people and is used for exhibitions and events throughout the year. Visitors should allow time to explore the full building.
The upper section of the central silo weighed roughly 9,000 pounds and required a helicopter to move it during relocation. This was one of the most challenging parts of transporting the entire structure.
