Soulsby Service Station

The Soulsby Service Station is a filling station from 1926 in Mount Olive with a distinctive house and canopy structure. The building still holds its original fuel pumps and repair bays where mechanics once serviced cars and trucks.

Henry Soulsby opened this station in 1926 after leaving coal mining, making it one of the area's first fuel stops. Years later, it served as a repair shop for radios and televisions when highways shifted traffic patterns.

This place was once a stopping point where families traveling Route 66 would fill their tanks and take breaks during long journeys. Today, visitors can observe how travelers experienced the road and what daily life looked like at such stations.

The building sits on the western side of Mount Olive and is easy to access and find. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and may have chances to explore inside depending on local arrangements.

Russell Soulsby later expanded the station beyond fuel sales by adding a radio and television repair shop on the property. This shows how the business adapted when highway changes reduced the flow of passing customers.
