Brown Shoe Company Factory, Industrial heritage site in Litchfield, Illinois.

The Brown Shoe Company Factory spans 2.5 acres at 212 S. State Street, featuring large windows and red brick construction typical of early 20th-century industrial architecture.

Built in 1917 by architect Albert B. Groves, the factory operated until 1967 as one of twelve manufacturing facilities for the St. Louis-based Brown Shoe Company.

The factory employees established a civic organization that developed a public park on the company grounds, contributing to community development in Litchfield.

The building, which became Litchfield's second-largest industry, now houses the Adenca cabinet manufacturing operation following its shoe production closure.

The factory's design includes specially measured windows of ten feet by three-and-a-half feet, positioned closely together across the building's exterior walls.
