St. Mary's Church

St. Mary's Church is a Roman Catholic church located at the corner of White Plains Road and 215th Street in the Williamsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx. The building features traditional ecclesiastical architecture and has long been a distinctive landmark in the area.

The church began in 1866 as a mission of St. Raymond's Church and was established as an independent parish in 1886 under the leadership of Reverend Patrick O'Sullivan. It remained in operation until 2007, when the Archdiocese of New York closed it due to changing demographics in the neighborhood.

The parish served as a gathering place for Irish and Italian families throughout much of the twentieth century, where they attended services and took part in neighborhood events.

The building is located at a busy intersection, making it easy to spot and accessible from multiple directions in the neighborhood. Visitors should know that the structure is no longer active for regular services.

Actor Sal Mineo, who received an Academy Award nomination, was a member of the congregation during his youth. His connection to this place shows how central the church was to neighborhood life.
