Weather Tower, Outdoor sculpture at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, United States
The Weather Tower is a steel sculpture on the IUPUI campus consisting of five elongated cubist forms painted in deep purple. The structure combines artistic design with weather sensors that display meteorological data through colors and light signals.
The work was created by American artist Jerald Jacquard and first entered the Indianapolis Museum of Art collection in 1999. In 2005, the sculpture was relocated to its present location on the IUPUI campus.
The sculpture integrates artistic elements with scientific functionality by displaying meteorological data through a system of colors and lights.
You will find this sculpture on the east side of White River Parkway East Drive, between Hine Street and Vermont Street. The location is easy to reach on foot and sits near other campus buildings.
The artwork changes its appearance depending on where you stand around the structure. This optical quality means each viewing position offers a different visual experience.
