Wianno Club, Private social club in Osterville, United States.
The Wianno Club is a three-story Shingle style clubhouse on Sea View Avenue with multiple cross gables, projecting sections, and large porches facing the water. The property includes a golf course designed by Donald Ross, dining areas, recreational spaces, and the Tiffany Cottage which serves as guest rooms.
The building was originally constructed as Cotocheset House in 1882 and converted to the Wianno Club in 1916. It gained National Register of Historic Places status in 1979, marking its importance in the area's coastal property history.
The clubhouse preserves architectural elements from the 1800s that reflect how wealthy summer visitors from Boston and New York liked to spend time. The design and furnishings show the lifestyle and leisure habits of affluent social circles during that era.
The property sits directly on the water and is easy to locate from Sea View Avenue, making it simple to find. The combination of golf facilities, dining options, and lodging means visitors can arrange either day trips or extended stays in one location.
Former Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes spent his final days at the club and died there in 1948, marking a significant moment in its history. This connection to a leading American figure shows how the club attracted prominent people from across the country.
