Colonial Center

The Colonial Center is a three-story brick building on South Mecklenburg Avenue that contains a theater hall seating around 400 people. The space includes multiple function rooms that can be used for various types of events and gatherings.

The theater was built in 1925 and originally served as a vaudeville venue before being converted into a movie theater. This transformation reflected the changing entertainment preferences of the early 20th century.

The building houses an art gallery on the second floor displaying works from local artists. The space regularly hosts theater productions and musical performances that draw visitors from the surrounding community.

The building is centrally located in South Hill and easily accessible on foot. Visitors can get information about upcoming events and reserve tickets through the office or by phone.

In its early years the building served multiple purposes: the first floor housed the local post office and the third floor was home to a Masonic lodge. This mixed-use arrangement shows how the building supported different aspects of community life.
