Wildcat Mountain State Park, State park in Vernon County, Wisconsin.
Wildcat Mountain State Park is a protected nature reserve spanning about 3,600 acres of forest and high bluffs that overlook the winding Kickapoo River. The terrain includes open areas and wooded sections that create varied vantage points for viewing the river valley below.
The area became a protected state park in 1948 after being used for farming and logging. This transition allowed the land to recover and develop natural habitats that exist today.
The land lies within the Driftless Area, a region shaped by unique geological patterns that developed without glacial influence. Visitors experience these distinctive natural formations while walking trails and viewing from elevated vantage points.
The park offers over 25 miles of marked trails throughout the property and several camping areas with basic facilities scattered across the grounds. Designated zones allow for horseback riding and other outdoor activities, with parking areas and entry points distributed around the site.
The Kickapoo River winds through the park and offers canoeing opportunities while passing limestone cliffs that rise along the water. This water route lets visitors experience the landscape from a completely different perspective than hiking on land provides.
