Platte River Campground Site, Archaeological site near Platte River, Benzie County, United States.

The site stretches 300 meters along the north bank of the Platte River, containing numerous prehistoric artifacts including ceramic fragments and stone tools.

Archaeological excavations in 1987 revealed multiple occupation periods between 130-1269 AD, indicating seasonal settlements during Middle and Late Woodland periods.

Researchers discovered fire cracked rocks, chert flakes, ceramic fragments, stone projectile points, two celts, and two copper artifacts at this location.

The campground requires an entrance fee for all vehicles, and reservations can be made up to six months in advance between May and October.

Despite continuous use as a campground for over 50 years, the archaeological site maintains substantial integrity with preserved prehistoric materials.
