Betsy Head Memorial Playground

Betsy Head Memorial Playground is a public play space in Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood, featuring interactive structures and activity areas designed for children from ages 2 to 12. The site includes sports courts, mature shade trees, and paved paths that wind through the grounds.

The park opened in 1915 and became an important outdoor space for Brooklyn residents during the city's rapid growth period. For decades it served as a gathering place for recreation and outdoor activities.

Children use the playground to build imaginative play spaces with large foam blocks and water features, shaping the space according to their own ideas. This open approach lets visitors experience the area in their own way.

The area has ramps and level pathways connecting all sections, making it accessible for people with different mobility needs. After rain, water play areas can get muddy, so sturdy footwear is a good idea when visiting.

Recent renovations added custom-built equipment including hanging bridges and climbing structures that support different physical development stages. These sections are spaced across the site so children of different ages can play safely in their own zones.
