Saint Anthony Hall
Saint Anthony Hall, Historic fraternity clubhouse in Hartford, United States
Saint Anthony Hall is a two-story granite building with rounded towers, conical roofs, and large windows located at 340 Summit Street in Hartford. The structure retains its original design while incorporating a second tower added in 2003 for safety compliance.
The building was completed in 1878 as a purpose-built facility for the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Psi at Trinity College, funded by a substantial industrial fortune. It marked a turning point in American higher education, setting a precedent for how student organizations would design and occupy dedicated spaces.
The building has served as a gathering place for students since its founding and continues to host social events rooted in fraternal traditions. Spaces like the meeting rooms reflect how members connect and maintain organizational bonds over generations.
The building sits in an established neighborhood near the Trinity College campus and is easily accessible on foot. Visits work best during regular academic seasons when the community is actively engaged with the space.
This building was the first in the United States to be constructed specifically as a dedicated residence for a student fraternity. It established an entirely new building type in American college life.
